Teen driver accused of smoking marijuana, speeding before fatal crash
A teenage driver with no license was smoking marijuana and speeding before a rollover crash that killed another teen on Milwaukee’s north side, according to a criminal complaint.
Kiara Alexandria Wilkins, 18, was charged with driving while suspended causing death in the crash Oct. 6 that killed Zion C. Lewis, 18, of Milwaukee, according to the complaint filed in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.
The crash in the 5500 block of North Teutonia Avenue injured Wilkins and four other people in her car, who were all smoking marijuana, according to the complaint and a report from the Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office.
The group was on its way to see a movie and no one was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
Wilkins was in the Milwaukee County Jail Friday with bail set at $20,000, according to jail records.
If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to six years in prison and could face additional charges, according to the complaint.
